Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 3, 2026. This policy explains what Quiet Focus collects and why, in plain language.
Who we are
Quiet Focus (“we,” “us”) is a student focus timer and assignment reminder app available at quietfocusai.com. Questions: contact support.
What we collect
What we collect depends on how you use the app:
- Account info (optional): If you sign in, we store your email and basic profile info from Google or email/password signup (via Supabase Auth).
- Focus sessions: Task name, session length, distractions, breaks, and recap stats — only if you sign in and use cloud sync.
- Assignments: Titles, courses, due dates, and reminder status you add or confirm after scanning.
- Push notifications: If you enable reminders, your browser generates a push subscription endpoint stored so we can send due-date alerts.
- Waitlist: Email address if you join the waitlist on our website.
- Assignment scans: When you use AI scan while signed in, extracted text from your upload (not the original PDF/image file) is sent to our server and then to Google Gemini to pull out dates and task names. We trim this to about 2,500 characters of relevant lines.
- Local data (guest mode): If you use the demo without signing in, assignments and sessions may stay on your device only (browser storage).
- Technical logs: Our hosting and database providers may log IP addresses, device type, and error data for security and reliability.
- Analytics & session recordings: When you use our website, we collect usage data through Google Analytics (pages visited, device type, general location, referral source) and Microsoft Clarity (clicks, scrolls, taps, page navigation, and session replay recordings). Session replays may show how you move through the app, including text you type into forms and assignment names visible on screen. We review these recordings to find bugs, fix confusing flows, and improve the product.
How we use your information
- Run the focus timer, assignment list, and reminders you ask for
- Sync your data across devices when you sign in
- Send optional push or in-app reminders before due dates
- Extract assignment details from scanned documents (AI scan, signed-in users only)
- Improve reliability, prevent abuse, and respond to support requests
- Understand how people use the site (analytics) and watch session replays to fix UX problems and improve onboarding
- Email waitlist subscribers when the mobile app is ready (one-time updates, no spam)
What we do not do
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not use your data for third-party advertising.
- We do not upload your full PDF or photo to AI — only extracted text you already see in the scan preview.
- Reminders use preset friendly messages; we do not send your assignments to an AI to write notification text.
- We do not share session replays publicly or sell them to third parties.
Third-party services
We use trusted providers to run the app:
- Supabase — authentication, database, and edge functions
- Google — optional sign-in (OAuth) and Gemini AI for assignment scan extraction
- Google Analytics — page visits, session duration, device/browser type, and traffic sources (measurement ID G-R9S0676XRS). Google may set cookies. See Google’s Privacy Policy.
- Microsoft Clarity — heatmaps, click/scroll data, and session replay recordings that our team may watch to improve the app. Clarity may set cookies and can capture on-screen content including form input. See Microsoft’s Privacy Statement.
- Vercel — website hosting
- Browser push services — Apple, Google, or Mozilla, depending on your device, to deliver notifications you opted into
Each provider has its own privacy policy. We only share the minimum data needed for them to provide their service. Analytics data is processed by Google and Microsoft on our behalf; we access aggregated reports and Clarity session replays in our Clarity dashboard.
Cookies & similar technologies
Quiet Focus uses cookies and similar storage for:
- Essential app function — keeping you signed in, saving preferences, and running the focus timer (local storage / session storage)
- Analytics — Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity cookies to measure traffic and record session behavior
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking analytics cookies may limit our ability to improve the site but core guest-mode features may still work locally.
Session recordings — important
Microsoft Clarity may record your browsing session so we can see where users get stuck (for example: dead clicks, quick exits, or confusion on the Tasks page). These recordings can include assignment titles, course names, email addresses typed on sign-in screens, and other text visible while you use the app.
We use recordings only to improve Quiet Focus — not for advertising. Only authorized project operators review replays. Recordings are stored by Microsoft under their retention rules; we do not download or republish them.
If you prefer not to be recorded, use a browser privacy extension that blocks Clarity/Analytics, browse in a mode that blocks third-party scripts, or use guest mode without entering personally identifying information in on-screen fields.
Your choices
- Guest mode: Use the app without an account; data stays local on your device.
- Notifications: Optional. You can decline permission or disable reminders in the app.
- AI scan: Optional. Local date parsing works without AI. AI scan requires sign-in.
- Delete data: Email us to request account or data deletion. You can also clear site data in your browser settings.
- Opt out of analytics: Use browser cookie controls, privacy extensions (e.g. uBlock Origin), or device “Limit Ad Tracking” settings. Google offers an Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Children
Quiet Focus is built for students. If you are under 13, please use the app only with a parent or guardian’s permission. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without appropriate consent.
Security & retention
We use industry-standard hosting and encrypted connections (HTTPS). No system is 100% secure. We keep your data while your account is active or as needed to provide the service, then delete or anonymize it when you ask or when it is no longer required.
International users
Our servers and providers may be in the United States. By using Quiet Focus, you understand your information may be processed there.
Changes
We may update this policy as the app grows. We will change the “Last updated” date at the top. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
